The Return of the Album: Apple's iTunes LP
The styled concept album had it's high time during the age of vinyl. With the CD came smaller casings containing a covercard or miniscule booklet, while design for auditory media all but faltered. In the age of the single release even this printed relic began to fade away. Nowadays only a square cover-image accompanies an online submission. But a new format might come to the rescue: Apple's iTunes LP made it's entrance even before the iPad-craze, and rethinking and expanding upon the album concept gives artists and small labels a chance to be at the forefront of this revival.
